The Ceilidh will be held in the afternoon with the target audience of 18 and over. The Ceilidh will be held in the Old Fruit Market in Glasgow city centre.
The ticket price will be £8 per person and this will go towards the band, food and drink and any extra money will go to Yorkhill Hospital
There will be Tea, Coffee, Soft drinks and Alcoholic drinks available and a selection of sandwiches, scones, crisps and cakes.
There will be a ceilidh band with a caller to guide everyone with the dances. The dances that will be played by the band are the Gay Gordon's, Strip the Willow, Military two step, Canadian Barn Dance, Dashing white Sargent, St. Bernard's waltz, Pride of Erin waltz and the Highland Schottishe.
There will be a raffle to make extra money with prizes including vouchers and wine.
I think your idea is great. The old fruit market is a great venue, really good for ceilidh's! It is a very popular venue and can sometimes be booked out quite far in advance. Why not look at maybe The Arches or another venue as a back up.
I agree that your target audience should be over 18 due to selling alcohol, it means you don't need to worry about getting another licence for having the kids on the premises.
I like the fact that there won't be any heavy foods, when you have a ceilidh light foods is always a good idea! Will you have people serving the scones/cakes or will everything be on a buffet table?
Event idea 1 – International food fair – Eilidh Hume This event would take place in March or April. It would be held late afternoon and the target audience would be students and professionals in the hospitality industry who have interest in food and cooking.
There will be a ticket price of £5 per person which would go to a chosen charity.
The International food fair would have different stalls showcasing typical food from different countries around the world. The stalls would have tasters and samples of food and drink. The stalls would also have different food and drink products to buy.
A possible venue for this event would be The Arches Glasgow, as it is a unique city centre venue close to Central station.
Different areas of The Arches would be used for the different countries stalls, (the amount of stalls and which countries are still to be decided.) The chosen charity would also have a stall. As well as the stalls there will also be seating areas where guests at the event can sit down with food and drink. The venue would be decorated with flags of the different countries at the fair.
This is a brilliant idea, and i think the target audience of the people in the hospitality industry is ideal as making it for just them would influence them to come more. I think its good that if they enjoy some of the drinks/food then it is available for them to buy. Another venue would be the secc in a room suitable for the capacity for a second choice as they held the scotlands trade fair which included food, however the arches is an excellent choice also as it is more central and I would certainly use it as first choice. The decorations and having somewhere to sit and enjoy the food is a good idea instead of continuously walking about. Giving £5 to a charity is a good and thoughtfull idea however it may be a struggle to pay for the venue and for those coming in doing the stalls therefore would have to think about how to fund-raise for some more money towards this event.
Eilidh I like your idea I think it is very different and many people would be interested in it. Although I am wondering how you are going to get the money to provide the stalls if all the money goes to charity, just a thought. I like your choice of location as it is easy to get to and would be very suitable for the event. I look forward to hearing more of what this event can offer.
Also i think a good location for this would be The old Fruit Market in Glasgow as it will provide space for multiple different stalls to be included. i also think a good target market for this event would be 18+ as it is a more suitable age for people to take full advantage of the different cultures that are being offered at this event.
The Quiz day will be a day event and the arches is a possible venue. It will be a £5 entry per person and each group will have 4-5 candidates. Each person attending will be asked to have their phones turned off for cheating.
There will be a range of soft drinks and tea and coffee served with sandwiches, crisps and nuts.
A quiz master will be needed and there will be a mix of questions such as music, flags, history, food and drink.
There will be a prize for the best team and a wooden spoon prize for the worst team.
Event idea 2 - Olympics themed fun day – Eilidh Hume
An Olympic themed fun day for school children, this event is aimed at school children from primary one to primary three. The event should last around two to three hours in the afternoon.
Pupils will be spilt into different teams (number of teams still to be decided), each team given a name of country. There will be different sport activities the pupils can take part in to compete against the other teams. A 1st 2nd and 3rd place for the winning three teams who will win prizes.
This event will take place in a primary school in Glasgow. The sports hall in the chosen primary school will be decorated with Olympic logo posters. There will be a table providing snacks and juice for in between games.
It will cost £1 per pupil, which will cover the cost of the decorations, drinks and snacks.
My first idea for a possible event would be 1920's night for over 18's. The event would be advertised and marketed for people aged between 18-25. It would be held the first week in April and last for approximately 3-4 hours. A possible venue for the event would be The National Piping Centre and possibly The Arches. Both are very flexible venues and once looking into both venues the best decision can be made. The venue will be decorated with 1920 themed decorations for example chandeliers and white feathers. White tablecloths and vintage tea sets. Of course the dress code will be 1920's as well which means feather headbands, fringe dresses and suits. A light buffet will be served as there will be music so possibly dancing. There will cocktails and drinks that have 1920's themed names. It will be a ticketed event which will be available prior to the event but not on the night and will hopefully cost between £3-5. Their will be fundraising events as well to raise some funds to fund the venue, food, drink and decorations and the ticket price will help with this. Any profits made will go towards a charity. Thank you.
Reply to Hannah Wales The 1920’s night is a really good idea! You could also try to market this to the older generations as it is a 1920’s night. The dress code is really fun, and everyone will enjoy the opportunity to dress up. You could also mention what sort of fundraising you are planning to do to raise money for this event. Tickets are really reasonably priced as well. The arches and the national piping centre are both really good events, but you could also consider the Grand Central Hotel as this would give your event a really sophisticated feel. Another possible venue to consider would be the Old Fruit Market. As this venue has a large open space, with built in pillars. Which could add to the 1920’s feel.
Another possible idea that I had would be to work with the Art & Photography students of local colleges and universities to showcase their work. This would be an open event so people can come in at their leisure but would be advertised and marketed so that people would know about it. A possible venue would be The Arches as they are quite flexible about hanging stuff on the walls to display the students work. Could also possible have the different areas of The Arches for different colleges or universities. Their will be a small casual area with beanbags, magazines and portfolios of the students work for the attendees to look at while having a hot or cold drink and something light to eat with a small cafe scene set up in an area. Depending on which charity that we would be working with, there would be a stall specifically set up for them to accept donations. It will be a very relaxed event with attendees to browse at a pace. With the students that we get involved hopefully we could set up the venue in such a way that their portfolio would tell a story as you walk through, maybe some areas could even be themed through their photos with different lighting and music to add effect. Thanks guys!
Event idea 1 My first event idea is a vintage tea party. Our target market would be the elderly. We could advertise the event in local places such as Scollers as a lot of elderly people go there for meals. I also feel that it would be a good idea to hold the event at Scollers for the same reason. As our target market go there already they can obviously access it easily and enjoy going there. At the event we could have tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes on offer and possibly have quite background music which is relevant to the 'vintage tea party' theme just to create an atmosphere. We could decorate the room and tables with old vintage pictures etc and have flowers on the tables. It will be a fun, chilled out day for the attendees and it will give them a chance to socialise with other attendees. All money will be donated to a charity of our choice, preferably a charity which helps elderly people.
Great idea Hannah, 1920’s is a fun theme and there is lots you can do with it. I agree with your venues both would be good and are also quite suited to the theme as would the fruit market. I agree that your target market would be 18-25, however, I think that the older clientele i.e. 25+ as they love to dress up too and would probably be willing to spend more money than the 18-25's. I think that you should make it last a bit longer, just because people might not want to dress up for a night only for 3/4 hours. I think maybe making it 7pm-12am would encourage more people to attend. I also think that selling tickets before hand is a good idea; however, I would leave the option to buy on the night open just in case you don’t sell as many tickets as you thought before the event. You could even wait until the night, and then change it to tickets at the door. I think your ticket price is fair and you could probably get away with charging your higher rate of £5. All in all, I think it is a brilliant idea and I would definitely attend! You could even have a dress up box with the old style mirrors on the night for those that couldn’t get anything 1920’s or forgot as this means everyone attending will be dressed up and they can also take some fun photos in the dress up area as memories. Well done, great idea!
My 2nd idea is a 1950's theme, which could either be during the day or in the evening. Our target audience would again be the elderly as the 1950's is their era.
The event could be held in the Grand Central Hotel's function suite as I feel this would be an ideal venue as it is right next to Central Station therefore it is easy to access. At the event there could be a Frank Sanatra or Elvis impersonator as entertainment. To decorate the room we could have large pictures of Marilyn Monroe and other famous people from the 50's.
We could sell tickets at £8 and this will pay for the entertainment, teas, coffees and sandwiches. Therefore if anyone requires a drink it would have be bought themselves.
At the event we could have a raffle and an auction in order to generate some money for our chosen charity.
I really like your 1950s dance idea. I think its lovely to have a dance for the elderly and they would absolutely love it, it would take them back to the good old days!!!
I like the venue choice but perhaps you could look at a couple more options, just as a back-up. But a central location is definately key as most elderly would be getting public transport.
You should do some research into how these type of dances used to be, perhaps by some market research i.e going to Elderly Homes and asking them what they used to do and what they would like to be included, this would also be a good way of promoting the event!
Eilidh I think this is a great idea as it encourages children to take part in sport and it will be a fun day for them. Although I think it might be hard to arrange something within a school as teachers may be hesitant to the pupils miss class time to attend the event. Also the school may not want us organising an event within their school.
The idea of the event is really good by maybe it could be held at a local sports centre where it can be advertised for a few weeks to generate a lot of interest. Although the event would have to be after school or at the weekend so that children and parents are able to attend.
I also think it could cost a little more than £1 to participate even if it is £2. This would generate more income which we could donate to a children's charity. There could also be a pick and mix stall where children can buy sweets also to generate income.
Reply to Hannah's Student Art & Photography Day I think this event is a really good idea and something the students and people with an interest in art and photography would want to get involved with. I think people will appreciate such a relaxed yet interesting event. I like the idea of the casual area for food and drink and also I think that allowing students to showcase their portfolio like a story is a good and creative idea and will add something extra to this event. Also the Arches is a good suggestion as there is lots of different sections of the venue you could work with. However, with involving students you will have to make sure that the date of the event does not clash with their coursework. Another possible venue for this event would be the Kelvingrove Art Gallery or the Glasgow Art Club. The target market for this event will probably be fellow students and over 25s as I can imagine more adults being interested in viewing the exhibition.
Good Idea and a very suitable venue to host a Ceilidh in, I to agree with the target audience but you haven't said how you would get people to attend the event itself. Also how will you arrange the dances? are you expecting everyone to know what they are doing and to be organised? The ticket price is a good price and its good to hear that any profits are going towards the charity
Jennifer's 1950's dance I think that this is a really good idea!! It would appeal to the elderly and they would really enjoy seeing all the things that they grew up with! Having the event in the Grand Central would be perfect as its easy to get to, however it is popular so you'll need to find other possible venues as backups. A possible venue could be the Mariott Hotel. Brilliant idea!!
Jennifer Your 1950's idea is really good, the impersonator and decorations all sound good and fit in with the theme as well and the ticket price is very reasonable. How would you get people to attend the event though and is it affordable to put all this together? I think the target audience is spot on as it would appeal to the elderly It is a really good idea and its very easy to picture this happening
I think the target market of primary school children is a very good idea as it will be appealing to P1 to P7's. This event will also be suitable for both boys and girls.
Event Idea 1 – St Patricks Themed Charity Auction Night – Jamie Lynch
The Charity Auction night will be held mid March ideally sometime within the weekend starting the 14th of March which keeps in line with the theme of St Patrick. The event will start from 7pm onwards and the target audience will be 18’s and over due to the type of venue and the fact alcohol will be getting sold
The ticket price will be £15 which will go towards the food for the buffet that will be available for guests, the decorations for the room to create the theme, some of the smaller auction prizes and the bands fee. The remainder of the money will go straight to the chosen charity which is Cancer Research Uk.
The auction itself will have a usual format with a host bidding off all the prizes giving guests the chance to put forward any amount of money they wish to bid for that particular prize predominately bidding against one another to raise as much money as possible. All proceedings will go to the chosen charity.
To gain the items of value that will actual be auctioned off local businesses will be contacted and asked to donate along with any celebrities which might have an interest in helping out. Also some smaller prizes will be bought from a cut of the ticket money.
An Irish folk band will play at the event before and after the auction takes place with a buffet being set up halfway through the night for guests to enjoy at their leisure.
A possible venue for this event would be the Classic Grand as it is in the city centre meaning easy to get to for guests, also they have a reputation for putting on events themed around Irish shin digs therefore have experience when it comes to creating the theme. The Classic Grand is also quite a large venue capacity wise which is appealing.
Event Idea 2 – Charity Fives Football Tournament – Jamie Lynch
This fives football tournament would be take place around February or March time and will be aimed at student’s of City of Glasgow college only therefore that would be the target audience.
It would be a £10 per player entrance fee in which a small part of would be used to pay venue and also the trophy for the winning team. The rest of the money raised would be the contribution to the chosen cause which would be towards The Clutha Bar fund.
The tournament itself would consist of students gathering their teams up and registering for the tournament at the latest 1 week before the event which is when the £10 entry fee would be collected. Depending on the amount of teams that play a system would then created in order for the competition to go ahead. An example of this could be similar to the Champions League format which consists of tables made up of 4 teams who then play one another gaining points and the winners of each group play in a knockout format eventually determining a winner. The winning team would then be awarded the trophy in a small ceremony with all the other teams watching.
I would advertise this event through posters around all the college campuses, on the college website and radio station and lastly through word of mouth.
The venue i would chose for this event is Power League Glasgow five a side pitches on Kennedy Street. This is an ideal location as it is right beside college campuses at Townhead therefore easy to get to and for students to locate. Also they have a vast amount of pitches to accommodate for a lot of games which is needed.
Reply to Jamie Lynch Charity Fives Football Tournament
I think a fives football tournament is a great idea as you could get a lot of students interested especially those in the sports education courses which would be your target market. Also raising money for the Clutha Bar fund is something close to the hearts of people around Glasgow so a greater interest will be taken in this event. I would have the registration cut off at least a fortnight before the event takes place so you have more time to organise the set up and give out any change in information.
The venue you have chosen is ideal as it is close to the college and its is large enough to host the event without having to wait for other games to finish before going on to the next one.
Reply to Jamie lynch Charity Fives Football Tournament
Your target audience will include any students studying sport related courses at the college and probably be from ages 18-25. Also lecturers from the college are a target to take part in this event. Anyone who has a connection with the Clutha bar will be a target audience as they will be interested in raising money for the appeal.

ReplyDeleteYour 1950's idea is really good, the impersonator and decorations all sound good and fit in with the theme as well and the ticket price is very reasonable.
How would you get people to attend the event though and is it affordable to put all this together?
I think the target audience is spot on as it would appeal to the elderly
It is a really good idea and its very easy to picture this happening
Jennifer's 1950 event
ReplyDeletesome other venue options may be The Raddison Blu or the Carlton George.
One thing that would be necessary would be seating areas for the guests, perhaps large tables so they can rest and have their drinks.
Eilidh's Olympic Themed Fun Day
ReplyDeleteI think the target market of primary school children is a very good idea as it will be appealing to P1 to P7's. This event will also be suitable for both boys and girls.
Event Idea 1 – St Patricks Themed Charity Auction Night – Jamie Lynch
ReplyDeleteThe Charity Auction night will be held mid March ideally sometime within the weekend starting the 14th of March which keeps in line with the theme of St Patrick.
ReplyDeleteThis fives football tournament would be take place around February or March time and will be aimed at student’s of City of Glasgow college only therefore that would be the target audience.

DeleteI think a fives football tournament is a great idea as you could get a lot of students interested especially those in the sports education courses which would be your target market.

ReplyDeleteYour target audience will include any students studying sport related courses at the college and probably be from ages 18-25. Also lecturers from the college are a target to take part in this event. Anyone who has a connection with the Clutha bar will be a target audience as they will be interested in raising money for the appeal.
